Israel's New Vision: Shifting Control in the Middle East

Middle East Control

Egypt controls Gaza, Israel and Jordan control the West Bank; Israeli opposition leader says Palestinian state is not possible

Gaza: Israeli opposition party Yisrael Beiteinu leader and former finance minister Avigdor Lieberman wants Israel to hand over control of Gaza to Egypt and Israel and Jordan to share responsibility for the West Bank.

Lieberman shared his opinion in an interview given to the Israeli daily Jerusalem Post.

“Egypt must take control of Gaza in the future. “Jordan should also take over Area A and a small part of Area B of the West Bank,” Lieberman said.

According to the Oslo Accords of 1993, Area A, which includes the cities of the West Bank, is fully under Palestinian control. Area B is controlled by Israel and Palestine. Meanwhile, Area C is completely under Israel’s control.

“The idea of two nations is dead. Not now. We need a different approach. “It’s not logical to do the same thing for years and expect different results,” Lieberman said.

He said Israel should end all ties with Gaza and Egypt should take control of Gaza as demanded by the UN and the Arab League.

He opined that all other proposals are impossible.

The Jerusalem Post reported that Lieberman opposes the resumption of Palestinian Authority rule in Gaza after the war.
